The Grant Training Center provides both proposal editing and proposal review. Please see below for descriptions of each:
Proposal Editing
GTC will edit proposals that will be submitted by institutions/organizations to federal, foundation or corporate donors. These are edited by experienced professionals who have worked or are working as editors for such publications are Newsweek, New York Times, and the New Yorker. Our editors are:
Gwenda Blair is currently a grant-writing fellow for ReServe, a nonprofit organization that matches retired professionals with community organizations. A best-selling author, an editor, and a radio commentator, she has written on business, science, health, and media for The New York Times, Newsweek, New York, and many other publications. She also teaches at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
Patricia Lynden is a highly knowledgeable and skilled professional. She has been a vital part of the staff of several of the nation's most prestigious publications including Newsweek, Connoisseur and Longevity. Today she brings her many decades of experience in journalism to the nonprofit and corporate world. She is available for writing and editing both editorial and commercial projects including promotional materials, annual reports, and other enterprises in many media, including print, online, video and others.
The editing criteria are as follows:
- Edit the entire proposal for grammar, appropriate transitions and clarity of language
- Discuss these editions with the writer of the proposal
- Follow-up with additional discussions and/or editions, if needed
- A seven to ten day turn-around period will be guaranteed, depending on the proposal

Proposal Review
GTC will review proposals that will be submitted by institutions/organizations to federal, foundation or corporate donors. These are reviewed by experts in the fields, who have successfully written grants of similar nature and have served as reviewers in similar competitions.
The review criteria are as follows:
- Review content and recommend changes and other appropriate revisions;
- Review format to assure that it follows donor guidelines;
- Assure that the review criteria for the grant have been appropriately addressed;
- Write three to five pages of critique on how proposal can be improved;
- Follow-up with discussions and/or second review if needed.
Proposals should be submitted to us one month prior to submission for we will need a five working day period for review and comments.
